Despite a US housing shortage, Florida and Texas have too much supply, Redfin said. AdvertisementA lack of US housing has fenced off most would-be buyers, but two states are dealing with the opposite problem — an overflow of homes. According to Redfin, Florida and Texas have properties stagnating on the market, as demand is shifting away from these areas. The number of homes also jumped 25% in McAllen, Texas, Redfin reported on Thursday. Of the country's top 10 metros where sellers were most likely to slash listed prices, seven are located in these two states.

Read previewFord's bet on hybrids looks like it's paying off. By comparison, the company's pure EV business has struggled. Ford's crosstown rival General Motors, meanwhile, has reversed its "all-in" electric vehicle strategy and pledged to bring back hybrids into its North American vehicle lineup. Not to be outdone, Ford is also doubling down on hybrids, even as it cuts back on some EV investments. "The EV adoption rate globally is under pressure, and a lot of other auto manufacturers are pulling back on EVs and pursuing plug-in hybrids instead," said Musk in the company's earnings call.

One sector in particular — electrical power transmission — will see $270 billion in financial benefits, according to Goldman Sachs. While utilities like the Power Grid Corporation of India may be perceived as unsexy, compared to growth stocks like Tesla, India plans to promote renewable energy without the taxpayer spending a single rupee. The country has added about 70 gigawatts of solar power capacity over the past decade without piling on further costs by simply maximizing the grid's usage. Currently, state governments in India levy surcharges and taxes on every unit of carbon-intensive energy transmitted through the grid.

Former Tesla executive Drew Baglino, who announced his resignation earlier this month, sold shares in the electric vehicle company worth around $181.5 million, according to a filing on Thursday with the SEC. Baglino, who joined Tesla in 2006, is selling about 1.14 million of his shares, the filing said, listing an "approximate date of sale" of April 25, and describing it as an exercise of stock options. Tesla announced on April 15 that it's laying off 10% of its global workforce, following a drop in first-quarter deliveries and a steep slide in the stock price. Baglino announced his departure in a statement posted to X. Prior to the latest sale, Baglino had unloaded about $4 million worth of shares in two transactions this year — one in late February and the other in early April, filings show.

Honda Motor on Thursday said it would invest $11 billion to build batteries and electric cars in Ontario, a significant commitment from a company that has been slow to embrace the technology. Like Toyota and other Japanese carmakers, Honda has emphasized hybrid vehicles, in which gasoline engines are augmented by electric motors, rather than cars powered solely by batteries. The Honda Prologue, a sport-utility vehicle made in Mexico, is the company’s only fully electric vehicle on sale in the United States. “This is a very big day for the region, for the province and for the country,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at an announcement event in Alliston, where Honda manufactures the Civic sedan and CR-V S.U.V. The investment is the largest by an automaker in Canadian history, he said.

Seven stocks in the S & P 500 tend to rise alongside Tesla shares, according to an analysis of recent data by CNBC Pro . The share price performances of these S & P 500 stocks were highly correlated to Tesla's last month. However, unlike Tesla's more than 30% plunge this year, these stocks have either remained flat or have relatively modest negative returns. A correlation of zero would indicate no statistical link between the EV automaker's stock and the share price of the seven companies.
